What
is a Domain Name?
A Domain name is an easy to remember text name for a 'real'internet
address, which is known as an IP number (eg162.23.254.47).
Registered names are unique - as long as registration is maintained
no-one else can use that address. They have mainly been used by
companies who register a name relevant to their business. Thus it is
easy to find Microsoft without knowing their domain by guessing that
their website will be at www.microsoft.com and that e-mail can be sent
@microsoft.com (Domains names are not case sensitive) top
Are there any rules to abide by?
Web names must be at least 3 characters long. Remember, a long name
isn't as easy for your friends, customers, etc to remember and they'll
also have to type it in each time! Valid characters are letters,
number and hyphens "-". You cannot start or end a domain
name with a hyphen though. The only other rules, as mentioned above,
are that you should not register names that somebody else has
ownership or copyright/trade mark rights on. top
How long does it take to register a name?
The the whole process will take about 24 hours. The actual registration is almost immediate, the delay comes from waiting for web
servers to refresh themselves with your new domain name. Once this is
complete, the domain name and email forwarding is ready to use.

Should I register a name now for use later on?
Oh definitely yes! The number of times we have seen a name that is
still available and thought "I'll register that name
tomorrow"...and by the time we get around to it the name has been
taken by someone else! And it's usually a competitor!! If you wish to
do this then simply leave the web and mail forwarding fields blank in
the application form. We'll park it for you until you're ready. You
can then change your details easily at any time with our control
panel. top
What
if the name I want to use is already taken?
Try a different domain, eg try .org.uk . You can also try a
slight variation. For example, to register an address based on a
toyshop you could try www.toy-shop.co.uk , or www.toyshop.co.uk.

Are domain names case
sensitive?
No. It doesnt matter if enter www.DOMAIN-NAME.co.uk
, or www.Domain-Name.co.uk
or any combination , you will still reach your domain. This also
applies to email addresses. top
Who owns
the domain name?
All domains we register are registered in your name as long as you pay the fees.
You are the individual or organisation at the top of the WHOIS record.
